THE IMPORTANCE OF LAYLATUL QADR

The holy month of Ramadhan is a time when we indulge in soul searching, meditation, and devotion to the Almighty. We all endeavor to cleanse and purify our souls by actively engaging in spiritual activities, increasing our worship, charity, and seeking forgiveness.

In this night, man’s deeds are multiplied by a thousand times.
(The) Night (of) Power (is) better than a thousand month(s). (Al-Quran, 97:3)

Virtues of Laylatul Qadr

Allah جل جلاله designated Ramadhan as the best of months and the night of Qadr as the best of nights.
This is purely a month of blessings and salvation. Allah جل جلاله chose Ramadhan over the other months and the night of Qadr in this month for the revelation of the Holy Quran.

“We have sent it (The Quran) down in the night of Qadr.”

(Al-Quran, 97:1)

Laylatul Qadr is one of the most sacred and blessed nights in Islamic calendar. In the Holy Quran, Allahجل جلاله has declared it better than a thousand months. On the night of Qadr, Allah جل جلاله bestows great mercy to his obedient servants as well as those who repent. It is narrated by Sayyedna Anas that the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “When the Night of Qadr occurs, Jibrail descends on the earth with a huge throng of angels and all of them pray for every servant of Allah, man or woman, busy in salah or dhikr, to be blessed by Allah.”
(Mazhari)

In this night, man’s deeds are multiplied by a thousand times. Those who pray or do any act of worship with sincerity receive pardon and magnified rewards. The Holy Prophet Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “Whoever prays on Laylatul Qadr out of sincerity and faith, shall have all their past sins forgiven”.

(Sahih Bukhari)

Meaning of Qadr

According to Zuhri and some other scholars, the meaning of Qadr is greatness, dignity, & honour. AbuBakr Warraq has stated that this night is so called because a person becomes a man of honour and dignity on account of repentance, seeking pardon, and righteous acts during the night. Another implication of
Qadr is predestination. In this context, the night is so called since the destiny of individuals and nations that was decided in pre-eternity is assigned to therelevant angels who are appointed for cosmic planning. If a person is destined to perform Hajj in the coming year, it will be prescribed.

Special Supplication for Laylatul Qadr

It is mentioned in a Hadith that Hadhrat Ayesha asked the Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم for a supplication for the night of Qadr. The Holy Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم told her the dua…

“O Allah, indeed You are Pardoning and Generous; You love to pardon, so pardon us.” (Sunan Ibn Majah 3850)

Time of Laylatul Qadr

The exact time of Laylatul Qadr is not known. The Holy Prophet advised us to seek it in the odd nights of the last 10 days of Ramadhan. One common mistake regarding the night of Laylatul Qadr is that in case one sees any sign or dream indicating the following night to be Laylatul Qadr, one would worship hard on that particular night and not on the others. This is a narrow approach. We need to strive the most during all the last 5 odd nights of Ramadhan to attain Allah Almighty’s pleasure and blessings. To get the best out of this great blessing, we should occupy ourselves in SALAH, RECITATION, DHIKR, ISTIGHFAR and GIVING SADAQAH.

The peace and blessings of Laylatul Qadr start descending at the fall of the night and last till the dawn of next day.
Peace it (is) until (the) emergence (of) the dawn.
(Quran, 97:5)

My mum and dad have told me a lot about Laylatul Qadr (the night of power).Ok I will admit it I was only planning on half listening, so that I could run off to finish gathering leaves for my snail house, but it was so interesting that I ended up asking them so many questions that we forgot all about the chicken in the oven for iftar. We had to order an emergency pizza instead. Don’t worry, I’m going to tell you what they told me…Laylatul Qadr is basically Allah’s excuse for letting us earn loads and loads of rewards. That’s because this one nights counts for 1000 months…
That’s 83 years! So if we worship Allah on this night, it’s going to count for us worshipping him for 83 years. I think that’s pretty cool, because if you think about it, even if you lived for 83 years, without this special night, you wouldn’t be able to get reward for 83 years of worship. Unless you didn’t waste any time on eating and sleeping and going to school. I think this night is like when our parents really want us to have something, so they make it super easy for us to learn it. Like if they say. “You can have a new bike for Eid if you pick that tissue up from the floor. “Just like that Allah wants us to have the 83 years’ worth of rewards. Ok, now if you thought that was cool.
Wait till I tell you this…
On Laylutul Qadr, there are so many angels that the world is jam packed! There are more than there are grains of sand on earth. That blows my mind away,
because I don’t even know the word for such a big number. A gazillion? Trillion? Bazillion? Fabillian? On this night, Allah taala is going to be talking be talking about you, because He tells angels EVERYTHING that is going to happen to you in the next year! He has to tell them, because the angels have different jobs to take care of. So basically if angels are going to be catching you when you slip on a banana skin on your way down the stairs, they will find out on this night. Even Jibreel , who is the most awesome, biggest angel of all comes down to earth! He only comes down for very special things like talking to the prophets, but he comes down on this night every year for us. Woah, I wish I could see him! He has 600 wings!
My dad said it’s pretty good manners to be thinking of Allah when He is talking about us; I agree… So now you’re thinking, ‘when is this amazing night?!’ My parents said it’s one of the nights in the last ten days of Ramadhan. We can’t be sure exactly which one, but it’s one of the odd nights .To make sure that we catch it, we can worship Allah and be our selves, on every night in the last ten days. Or at least on the odd nights, which are the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th of Ramadan.
By the time I had found all of this out, the chicken in oven had a thick crusty black charcoal like stuff over it. We only found out when the smoke alarm went off But I wasn’t finished, because I still didn’t. know what to do on that night…

So we made a list and called it Things to do on laylatul qadar if you’re smart
(Just for the record, I am).
