Early Life and Education:

Mufti Muhammad Hassan (RA) was born in 1880 in Milpur, British India (now Pakistan) into a pious family of the Utmanzai tribe of Pathans. His father, Maulana Allah Dad, was a respected religious scholar who instilled in him a deep love for Islam and knowledge.

Early Education:

Hassan R.A.  received his early education in traditional Islamic schools, where he excelled in his studies. Recognizing his potential, his family encouraged him to pursue higher Islamic learning. In 1896, at the age of 16, he enrolled at Darul Uloom Deoband, a renowned Islamic seminary in India.

At Darul Uloom Deoband, Hassan had the opportunity to study under esteemed scholars like Maulana Mahmud Hasan Deobandi and Maulana Anwar Shah Kashmiri. He immersed himself in the study of Islamic sciences, including Quranic exegesis, Islamic law, and Hadith. His dedication and intellectual prowess earned him the prestigious “Dars-e-Nizami” degree in 1903, signifying his mastery of Islamic knowledge.

Spiritual Development and Discipleship:

During his time at Darul Uloom Deoband, Hassan Rahmatullah Alih   developed a deep devotion to Sufism, influenced by the teachings of Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi. Thanwi, a leading Sufi scholar and spiritual guide, emphasized spiritual purification, adherence to the Quran and Sunnah, and service to humanity. Hassan R.A.  became a close disciple of Hadhrat  Thanwi and was eventually recognized as his “Khalifa-e-Arshad” (the most senior successor).

Establishment of Jamia Ashrafia:

Following the creation of Pakistan in 1947, Mufti Muhammad  Hassan dedicated himself to serving the newly formed nation. In September 1947, he established Jamia Ashrafia Lahore, a prominent Islamic seminary named after his mentor, Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi. The Jamia aimed to provide a comprehensive Islamic education, encompassing Quran memorization, Islamic studies, Arabic language, and other essential disciplines.

Under Hassan’s leadership, Jamia Ashrafia flourished. He developed a rigorous curriculum, attracted talented scholars as faculty, and created a vibrant learning environment. The Jamia produced thousands of graduates who went on to become leading scholars, teachers, and community leaders. His  vision extended beyond Lahore, and he established branches of the Jamia in several other cities, further expanding its reach and impact.

Mufti Muhammad Hassan is revered as a prominent Islamic scholar and spiritual guide. His unwavering commitment to Islamic education and community service earned him the respect and admiration of Muslims around the world. His contributions to the field of Islamic scholarship are significant, and his legacy continues to inspire generations of Muslims to pursue knowledge, cultivate piety, and serve their communities.

Notable Works:

Mufti Hassan was a prolific author and scholar. He wrote several books and articles on Islamic jurisprudence, theology, and spirituality. His most notable work is “Maktubat-e-Thanwi,” a collection of his teacher’s discourses and letters. This compilation serves as a valuable resource for understanding the teachings of Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanwi and remains a source of inspiration and guidance for students and scholars worldwide.

   8:  Mufti Muhammad   Khalil Gujranwala,(May Allah have mercy on him)  

   9:  Dr. Hafeezullah Muhajir Makki (May Allah have mercy on him)  ,    

   10  : Maulana Abdul Rehman Ashrafi (May Allah have mercy on him)

  Children :

 He had seven sons and three daughters from his second wife Ms. Out of which one son and two daughters died in his         lifetime.

1: Hazrat Maulana Mufti Ubaidullah Khan Qasmi (former Mahatmaam and Sheikh Al-Hadith Jamia Ashrafia)(may Allah have mercy on him).

2: Hazrat Hafiz Waliullah (may Allah have mercy on him).
3 Hazrat Haji Abdullah(may Allah have mercy on him).
4: Hazrat Maulana Abdul Rahman Ashrafi Rahim (former vice-chancellor of Jamia).(may Allah have mercy on him).
5: Hazrat Maulana Abdul Rahim Ashrafi (Former Naib Muhtamim Jamia Ashrafiya Blue Dome)(may Allah have mercy on him).
6: Hazrat Maulana Fazl-ur-Rahim Ashrafi Madzala Mehtamm Sheikh Al-Hadith Jamia Ashrafia Lahore(may Allah have mercy on him).

Date of Death:

Mufti Muhammad Hassan passed away on June 1st, 1961, in Karachi, Pakistan and was buried there.
