According to Hazrat Rafay, Hazrat Muhammad s.a.w was asked what the best earning is. He said the earning which is earned from your own hand and the one which is earned from a fair trade.
If we study the life of Hazrat Muhammad s.a.w, we will see that his grandfather Hazrat Abdul Mutalib did his upbringing till the age of nine. After his grandfather’s death, he received very few valuables from his inheritance. His uncle Abu Talib took his responsibility. He was also a poor man, and the condition of the house was bad. Due to this reason, Hazrat Muhammad s.a.w decided to do goat herding. When Hazrat Muhammad s.a.w was living with Halima, he saw the children of Halima doing goat herding and he also helped them with it. This is the reason why he started doing the same in Makkah.
While Hazrat Muhammad s.a.w was growing up, he started trading with the traders of Makkah. His uncle also used to take him on trade trips with him and Hazrat Muhammad s.a.w continued doing trade till the age of twenty-five. He took the goods of Hazrat Khadija to Sham while doing trade with her and he got famous because of his honesty and duteousness.
The third chapter of Hazrat Muhammad’s s.a.w life starts when he marries Hazrat Khadija. Hazrat Muhammad s.a.w spent twenty-seven years of his life living with Hazrat Khadija. From this time, ten he traded for ten years, and during that, three journeys were the highlight. One journey was toward Yemen, the second was towards Najad, and the third was towards Najran. At the age of forty, Hazrat Muhammad s.a.w received the revelation from Allah, and he invited people to Islam. After that, he spent thirteen years in Makkah and there he had not only a life of poverty but also a not very happy life. The people of Quresh were against him, and trade was not possible during that time. He survived that time by doing some business and using the income of Hajj.
Earning from your own hand is a Sunnat of all Prophets. If we study their lives, we will realize that many things that people do not like doing today were all done by prophets themselves. Hazrat Adam did farming, ground the flour, and cooked bread. Hazrat Idrees was a tailor, Hazrat Nooh was a carpenter, Hazrat Ibrahim did the construction of the Holy Kaba, Hazrat Ismail used to make arrows, and Hazrat Ashaq and Yaqoob used to do goat herding with their family.
