Maulana Ubaidullah Qasmi was born in the year 1921 in Amritsar India, in the family of Mufti Muhammad Hassan. He was brought up in the family, which was the centre of knowledge and spiritual guidance. At nine, he memorized Quran from Qari Raheem Baksh. Later on he also recited to Maulana Anwar Shah Kashmiri. Since childhood, he received special attention from Hakeemul Ummah Maulana Ashraf Ali Thanvi, and upon his advice, at the age of nineteen, he got his enrollment in Darul Uloom Deoband in 1359 A.H. From there he graduated one year later. He had the opportunity to study the first chapter of all the books of Dars-e-Nizami from Hadhrat Thanvi.

He started teaching in Jamia Ashrafia since its inception in September 1947. He remained the director of Jamia Ashrafia from 1953 to 1961, then promoted to the office of rector after the demise of his late father late Mufti Muhammad Hassan, there he served for fifty-five years till his death in 2016. He also held the office of vice president Wifaq-ul-Madaris AlArabia from May 1978-September 1989. He was also the member Islamic ideology council. Furthermore, he was also the president of Majlis Sian Atul Muslim. Nevertheless, he held several governmental/non-governmental positions at different times.
